One question, four answers
The bag rule is the one policy that turns people away at the gate, and it is not one rule. Every NFL stadium runs the league's clear-bag policy. Most NBA and NHL arenas do not require a clear bag at all but cap what you can carry to a clutch, and where a larger purse is allowed it often has to go through an X-ray lane. Baseball is the most generous: 14 of the 30 ballparks take a soft-sided bag up to 16 x 16 x 8 inches, which is a real backpack's worth of space, even where the rule also describes a clear bag.
Every line below is the venue's own published rule, read on a dated day and linked from that venue's game-day guide, where the rest of its policies sit beside it. The counts are counted from those lines, not from a league press release.

How to read the rule before you leave
- A clear bag means clear plastic, vinyl or PVC, usually 12 x 6 x 12 inches or a one-gallon freezer bag. Tinted or frosted does not count.
- A clutch is the small non-clear bag most policies allow alongside the clear one: 4.5 x 6.5 inches in the NFL's wording, 4 x 6 x 1.5 at many arenas. If it has a strap, some venues call it a purse and turn it around.
- Medical and diaper bags are permitted almost everywhere the general rule is strict, but they go through a separate inspection, so give yourself the time.
- Lockers exist at a minority of venues and cost money. The game-day guide for each venue says whether there is one and where.
