What to Expect

PPG Paints Arena sits at the edge of downtown Pittsburgh in the Uptown district. The Penguins are Pittsburgh's hockey heartbeat, a franchise with five Stanley Cups and a loyal, knowledgeable fan base. The arena opened in 2010 and is modern, comfortable, and well-designed for hockey. Downtown Pittsburgh's restaurants and bars are within walking distance, and the Strip District is a short ride for pregame dining. Games run about 2.5 hours in regulation.

Tips & Fan Reports

When you park in the arena garage, go straight at the entrance, turn left along the wall, and drop down a level. Park near the exit so you can get out faster and not get stuck in the garage.

Souper Bowl is the closest bar to the arena and runs tons of specials around Pens games. The Mellon Center garage is also a good option that is walkable. Get to downtown early if you are driving.

SouperBowlPGH

Prepay for parking in the lots by the arena to know you have a spot. Depending on where they put you though, getting out can be an absolute nightmare. The T is free on game days if you are staying downtown.

PrepayParkPGH

The arena garage is for non-hockey events, so it is not an option on a Penguins night.

The Casamigos Club sits in the double-attack zone below sections 107-109, so you get two of the three periods of Penguins attacking play in front of you.

Do not bring a wrapped gift for a player: sealed packages of any kind are refused.

The 61 and 71 route families stop on Fifth Avenue coming in and Forbes Avenue going out — check which street you want before you board.

Steel Plaza is the closest T station, at Ross Street and 6th Avenue.

All arena parking is cashless, and the arena encourages pre-purchase through ParkWhiz.

The Lexus Club is the arena's only sit-down fine-dining restaurant, and its view is of the Pittsburgh skyline rather than the ice.

These figures are estimates. Most venues no longer publish the numbers behind them — concession and ticket pricing moved to dynamic marketplaces — so we hold them as estimates rather than dating them as verified.

  • Ticket prices — Secondary market averages (SeatGeek/StubHub)
  • Parking prices — Never checked against a published rate: the venue's parking page, read 2026-09-05, publishes none — the lots are cashless and 'event parking rates vary'. The 2026-07-27 figures were compiled from third-party listings (was: "PPG Paints Arena 2026: the roughly 3,000 official arena spaces cost $26-$32 for Penguins games; off-site reservations from $6").
