NBA Arena Guide: 10 Best Arenas to Watch a Game

VisitYourTeam Staff4 min readStadium Guides

Every Arena Has a Personality

NBA arenas feel more intimate than NFL stadiums. You're closer to the court, the crowd noise concentrates differently, and the in-arena production can make or break a night out. Some venues feel like concert halls for basketball. Others feel like oversized gyms that happen to seat 20,000.

We've been to all 30. These are the 10 that stuck with us.

The Top 10

1. Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

MSG is the standard. There's no bad seat, the energy during a competitive Knicks game is almost physical, and the midtown Manhattan location means your pregame and postgame options are basically infinite. You feel the history the moment you walk in.

  • Capacity: 19,812
  • Atmosphere: Electric when the Knicks are good. Deafening during playoff runs
  • Best feature: That iconic circular ceiling and the "Garden" mystique that no other arena has figured out how to copy
  • Food tip: You're better off eating near Penn Station before the game

2. Chase Center, San Francisco, CA

Everything a modern NBA arena should be. Great sightlines from every seat, seamless tech, and a food program that pulls from San Francisco's restaurant scene. The Warriors built this thing right.

  • Capacity: 18,064
  • Best feature: Thrive City outdoor plaza with restaurants and pregame events
  • Food: Probably the best food program in the NBA

3. United Center, Chicago, IL

The Michael Jordan statue outside sets the tone before you even walk in. Inside, the United Center carries the weight of basketball history while still working as a modern arena. Chicago crowds know basketball, and they let you know it.

  • Capacity: 20,917
  • Best feature: The Jordan statue and those championship banners
  • Atmosphere: Real basketball knowledge in the stands

4. Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, CA

Home of the Lakers (and Clippers, and Kings, and Sparks). It's a celebrity-spotting venue as much as a basketball arena. But when the Lakers are rolling, the atmosphere is genuinely special. The LA Live district outside gives you plenty to do before and after.

  • Capacity: 18,997
  • Best feature: The LA Live district right outside the door
  • Pre-game: Dozens of restaurants and bars within walking distance

5. TD Garden, Boston, MA

Boston's passion for the Celtics runs deep and loud. TD Garden sits above North Station, making it one of the easiest arenas to reach by transit in the entire league. And those 17 championship banners staring down from the rafters are something else.

  • Capacity: 19,156
  • Best feature: 17 championship banners and a crowd that watches like they've got money on it
  • Getting there: Green Line or Orange Line to North Station. Leave the car at home

6. Ball Arena, Denver, CO

Denver's altitude does something to the energy in this building. Nuggets fans are passionate, the craft beer selection is excellent, and the arena's location near downtown Denver means solid pregame options in LoDo.

  • Capacity: 19,520
  • Best feature: Colorado craft beer selection and that mountain-city vibe
  • Pro tip: LoDo (Lower Downtown) is a short walk for food and drinks before the game

7. Fiserv Forum, Milwaukee, WI

Milwaukee's arena punches way above its market size. The Deer District outside turns into a block party on game nights. Inside, the sightlines are great from every seat and the food is surprisingly strong for a small-market venue.

  • Capacity: 17,341
  • Best feature: The Deer District outdoor plaza. Free watch parties during big games
  • Value: Some of the most affordable NBA tickets in the league

8. Footprint Center, Phoenix, AZ

The downtown Phoenix location has gotten a lot better as the city has invested in the surrounding area. Perfect weather eight months of the year means walking to the game is a pleasure. The Suns fanbase brings real energy.

  • Capacity: 18,422
  • Best feature: Walking to a basketball game in perfect weather
  • Food: Downtown Phoenix's restaurant scene has improved a ton recently

9. FedExForum, Memphis, TN

Memphis is an underrated basketball city. FedExForum delivers atmosphere that rivals arenas in much bigger markets. The Grizzlies' "Grit and Grind" identity extends into the stands, and Beale Street is right there when the game ends.

  • Capacity: 18,119
  • Best feature: Beale Street pregame. BBQ, blues, and then basketball
  • Must-do: Central BBQ before the game, then walk over

10. Kaseya Center, Miami, FL

The Heat's waterfront arena on Biscayne Bay looks great from every angle. Miami crowds show up late but bring real energy once they settle in. The view of the bay from the concourse is a nice bonus between quarters.

  • Capacity: 19,600
  • Best feature: Waterfront location on Biscayne Bay
  • Pro tip: The 300 level has surprisingly solid sightlines for the price

NBA games are generally more accessible than NFL. Cheaper tickets, longer season, and most arenas are in city centers with transit access. If you're new to live basketball, pick any arena on this list and you'll have a good time.
