What to Expect
TD Garden sits atop North Station in downtown Boston, surrounded by the pubs and restaurants of the West End and the historic North End. There's no tailgate lot, the pregame scene is the bars along Canal and Causeway streets, the North End's Italian restaurants, and Faneuil Hall. Plan to arrive 60-90 minutes early. The arena is compact, loud, and the parquet floor gives it an old-school basketball feel that connects to the Celtics' storied history. Games run about 2.5 hours.

Sullivan's Tap is the traditional pre-game bar for Celtics games. It is a dive, but that is part of the appeal. Wear lots of green and get there early enough to watch warmups. The sports museum tour inside the Garden has cool memorabilia too.
Park at the garage at Post Office Square. Quick walk to the Garden and way easier to get out than the garages right next to TD. Worth the few extra blocks.
Eat before you go. The food at TD Garden is overpriced and not great. Wander around the concourse to see what is available but honestly your best move is eating at a restaurant beforehand.
Stuff is expensive at the Garden but not as insane as some places. Fenway is worse. Grab a drink and just enjoy the atmosphere - there is nothing quite like a Celtics playoff game at TD.
Measure the bag: 6 by 4 by 1.5 inches is very small by arena standards, and anything larger costs $15 to check downstairs in North Station.
The Rafters is a membership party deck on Level 9, not a seating section.
The passageway under Causeway Street links commuter rail to the subway without going outside.
The garage caps vehicle height at 6 feet 8 inches — a roof box or a van will not fit.
Southside commuter lines split: Old Colony and Fairmont change at South Station, everything else at Back Bay onto the Orange Line.
No re-entry at all, so anything you want from the car has to come in with you the first time.
