What to Expect
Citi Field is in Flushing Meadows, Queens, next to the site of the 1964 World's Fair (the Unisphere is visible from the park). Opened in 2009 to replace Shea Stadium, it's a modern ballpark designed as an homage to Ebbets Field with the Jackie Robinson Rotunda entrance. The Mets' fan base is defined by loyalty through losing and euphoria during winning, there's nothing quite like Citi Field when the team is good. The 7 train from Manhattan drops you right at the doorstep. Flushing, Queens is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world, and the food scene (both inside and outside the park) reflects that.

Sections 310-320 on the Excelsior Level behind home plate are the best bang for your buck. You get access to most clubs and an indoor lounge area which is perfect when the weather isn't cooperating.
Go super early and watch them warm up, catch, and take batting practice. You will be able to get up close and enjoy the park before the crowd arrives. Check out the Mets Museum inside.
Eat all of the things. Citi Field has some of the best food of any ballpark in baseball. The worst part of driving is the Citi Field exit itself - that always takes the longest. Take the 7 train if you can.
This is not a tailgate in the usual sense: no open flame, no organised setup, and no alcohol in the lot at all.
During the US Open the Mets warn of gridlock and limited parking, and push transit outright.
The 7 Train stops at Mets–Willets Point, which is the ballpark's own station.
Everything has to fit inside one parking bay, and you can only spread across as many bays as you have cars.
Three separate clubs sit behind home plate on three different levels — Delta SKY360 on the Plaza, the Heineken Diamond Lounge on Excelsior, the Hudson Whiskey NY Club on Promenade. 'Behind the plate' is not one location here.
Lots open an hour before the gates, so the useful window is short.
For a concert at Citi Field, tailgating is prohibited outright rather than restricted.

- Bag policy
Purses, non-backpack diaper bags, totes, drawstring and messenger bags, small soft-sided coolers, and fully clear backpacks may enter when no larger than 16 x 16 x 8 inches.
