Travel
Overview

Yankee Stadium is in the South Bronx, about 8 miles north of Midtown Manhattan. The subway is by far the best option — the 161st Street–Yankee Stadium station (4/B/D trains) is directly across the street from the main entrance. On game days, Metro-North runs the Yankee Clipper from Grand Central Terminal to a platform inside the ballpark grounds. Driving is possible but painful: the Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) backs up severely, and parking is limited and expensive. For fans coming from outside the city, the Metro-North park-and-ride is the smart play.

Tip #1

The 4 train express is the fastest option from Midtown — Grand Central to 161st Street in about 20 minutes.

Tip #2

Metro-North Yankee Clipper runs from Grand Central on game days only. It's faster than the subway and drops you inside the gates.

Tip #3

If driving from the suburbs, park at a Metro-North station and ride in. It's cheaper and faster than navigating the Bronx.

Tip #4

The Major Deegan (I-87) jams badly starting 90 minutes before first pitch. Budget 30-60 extra minutes if you must drive.

Tip #5

Post-game, the 161st Street subway platform gets packed. Walk one stop south to 149th Street–Grand Concourse for a less crowded train.

Tip #6

The D train is the best option from the West Side (Columbus Circle, 34th Street). No transfer needed.
