What to Expect
Northwest Stadium sits in Landover, Maryland, just outside the Capital Beltway in the DC metro area. On Commanders game days, the stadium fills with burgundy and gold as one of the NFL's most passionate fanbases comes to life. The franchise's history runs deep in the DC area, from the glory days of Joe Gibbs' three Super Bowl titles to the more recent years of rebuilding and rebranding. Commanders fans are loyal and vocal, carrying decades of tradition even through challenging seasons. The tailgate scene is lively, DC-area food culture shines (half-smokes, crab cakes, mumbo sauce), and the Metro makes getting there surprisingly easy for a suburban stadium.

Most people just find a spot and do their own thing. People are cool and will share food from the grill if you walk up. We had Bears fans offering up food at our tailgate so most people are friendly.
If you have an accessible placard, the Gray Lot on Brightseat Road is a cash lot with accessible spots. Call guest services about the accessibility cart for anyone with mobility needs.
Mac Shack, Chicken Guy, and Fuku Chicken are the best food spots inside the stadium. The food really is not that good in general but those three are decent. Also try Hail BBQ - it is surprisingly good.
Get to the stadium by 11 for a 1pm game so you have time to enter the lots, find parking, and walk in. You can not tailgate once the game starts so plan your time around that.
Get there early - leaving later than you think because of traffic is guaranteed. Take a walk around and check out the tailgating scene even if you're not set up yourself.
Go to the highest level of the stadium - there are some surprisingly scenic views. Order food and eat in peace up there before the crowds fill in, plus watch players warm up.
Put the grill out before you walk in, and never stow a hot one under the car — the ash dumpsters in the lots are the intended answer.
Aim for the Red Zone Lot if the tailgate is the point — it opens five hours out and has the wider bays.
The 1932 Club gives one parking pass for every TWO seats, which is a better ratio than most stadiums offer.
The stadium was FedExField until the 2024 rename, so older listings, directions and reviews use that name.

Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags may be no larger than 12 x 6 x 12 inches; one-gallon clear bags and clutches about 4.5 x 6.5 inches are also permitted.
