What to Expect
Tropicana Field, the Trop, is the only fixed-dome stadium in Major League Baseball, located in downtown St. Petersburg across Tampa Bay from Tampa. The climate-controlled interior stays around 72°F year-round, making it a refuge from Florida's heat and thunderstorms. The dome is dated (opened 1990) and lacks the charm of newer parks, but the Rays have added character, including a touch tank with live cownose rays behind center field. The surrounding EDGE District has emerged as a walkable pregame scene with breweries and restaurants. Games run about 3 hours.

Tips & Fan Reports
If the main gates are crowded go to Gate 7. It enters directly to the Sports Bar and there is usually no line. Exit Gate 7 after the game and walk through the tunnel to pop up at Ferg's on Central Ave.
Central Ave has a lot of great spots for pre and post game. Ferg's is the hot spot. The Budweiser Porch inside the stadium has the best food spots. Obviously see the rays tank because they are adorable.
Check out the club level seats like RR-114 for a unique view. They give you a buffet and free drinks. The Trop is not the prettiest stadium but the experience is fun and tickets are usually cheap.
Grouper sandwich is a Florida Gulf Coast specialty. Fresh and worth trying if you're visiting from out of state.
Tropicana Field is 100s and 200s. If a listing offers you a Section 300, it is not describing this ballpark.
If the Rays' lots sell out, downtown overflow lots set their own rates and refund policies — the club does not control them.
Tailgating starts when the lots open for the event rather than at a fixed hour.
Raymond and DJ Kitty appear at the Gate 1 Rotunda thirty minutes before first pitch.
No open flames or fire pits, and nothing that counts as a large commercial grill.
Rideshare drop-off is Gate 4; ADA guests may use Gate 1 or Gate 4.
