### Parking tips

- Do not drive to MSG unless absolutely necessary. Midtown parking is $40-60 and traffic is miserable.
- Penn Station is literally inside the arena, subway, NJ Transit, LIRR, and Amtrak all stop here.
- If driving from New Jersey, take NJ Transit to Penn Station instead. It's faster and cheaper than driving and parking.
- Rideshare drop-off is on 8th Avenue. Post-game pickup is brutal. Walk to 6th Avenue for faster pickup.
- Street parking in Midtown is effectively impossible on game nights. Don't waste time looking.


## Seating

Madison Square Garden's own seating chart lists its levels as Floor, 100s, 200s, Suites, 300s, 400s, the Hyundai Bridge and the Lounges. The Bridge is the one nothing else has: suspended walkway seating hung above the bowl rather than built into it. The building sits on top of Penn Station, which is why the upper levels are as steep as they are — there was nowhere to spread out.

## Getting There

Madison Square Garden is directly above Penn Station, which makes it the most transit-connected venue in this data by a wide margin: eight subway lines stop beneath it or a block away, PATH arrives from New Jersey, and both LIRR and NJ Transit terminate in the building. Driving is not covered at all.

**Driving.** The transportation page publishes no driving route or parking approach — it covers rail and bus only.

**Public transit.** The Garden sits directly above Penn Station. Take the 1, 2, 3, A, C or E to 34th Street/Penn Station, or the B, D, F, M, N, Q or R to 34th Street/Herald Square and walk one block west. PATH trains from New Jersey stop at 33rd Street and Avenue of the Americas. From Grand Central, take the Shuttle or the 7 to Times Square then transfer downtown to a 1, 2 or 3. MTA buses M4, M10, M16, M34 and Q32 stop at 7th Avenue and Penn Station. LIRR and NJ Transit both run into Penn Station beneath the arena.

**Rideshare.** Uber/Lyft drop-off is on 8th Avenue near the main entrance. Post-game pickup is extremely congested. Walk at least 2-3 blocks away for faster pickup and lower surge pricing.

**Walking.** From 34th Street/Herald Square it is one block west to the Garden; from Penn Station you are already underneath it.

## Tailgating

Madison Square Garden is at 4 Pennsylvania Plaza, sitting directly on top of Penn Station — the A, C and E stop underneath the building — so a Knicks pregame is Midtown rather than anything resembling a lot, and no tailgating policy exists to publish. Two things need planning. Screening is TSA-style and the arena asks guests to arrive at least two hours before tip-off because of it. And the bag rule tightens for basketball: the general policy is that a bag must fit comfortably under your seat with nothing over 22 by 14 by 9 inches, but for some events including Knicks games a strict no-bag policy applies outright, so check the event page before you leave.
